Lexington's Battle of the Books team competed in the Bison Division of the Battle of the Books on November 14th. The students competed against Ohio School for the Deaf, Marie Phillip and Walden School from Massachusetts, and Iowa School for the Deaf. Lexington won 2 out of the 3 matches! Our students worked very hard and we are so proud of them.
Congratulations to team members: Michelle Juarez Toxqui, Yudesh Persaud, Jayla McClain, Samantha Nozius, Anher Walid, and Juliette Dorch. Students were coached by Steven Schneiderman (head coach) and Holland Sanchez (assistant coach) with IT support provided by Maria Vega. The Battle of the Books is a reading competition for deaf and hard of hearing students in grades 5-8. Students across the nation read the same assigned books and then compete against each other by answering true or false, short answer, multiple choice, and presentation style questions about the books they read. The competition promotes literacy among deaf and hard of hearing students and is rooted in a spirit of academic competition and sportsmanship. The program is run by Gallaudet University.
