Recap - Varsity Girls Basketball Season

The Varsity Girls Basketball team, led by Coaches Raven Pentz and Wendell Forbes, had a season filled with challenges and accomplishments. They finished with an overall record of 7-15, including a 2-3 record in the PSAA, 3-2 in Metro competition, and 2-9 against Deaf schools. Despite facing tough opponents, the team displayed resilience, determination, and growth throughout the season.
The team competed in the Big East Classic against the American School for the Deaf and Marie Philip & Walden Schools. Both games were hard-fought battles, ending in close losses. Another major event was the Battle of Liberty, where the team faced New York School for the Deaf, the top-ranked Division 1 team. Though it was a tough match, the players enjoyed the competition and gained valuable experience.
A highlight of the season was the team’s performance in the PSAA league. After defeating Stony Brook School, they advanced to the championship game, where they faced Long Island Lutheran, the heavy favorite. While they ultimately fell short, their effort and perseverance were commendable. Daniela Acosta-Guzan was recognized for her outstanding play and was named All-Conference.
The team also participated in the ESDAA Division 1 Tournament at Fanwood as the last seed. They started strong against Fanwood (ranked #1) but could not maintain their momentum, finishing 7th overall with one win in three games. Eliana Mera earned All-Star honors for her contributions.
Despite the challenges, the season was a testament to the team’s resilience and growth. Their determination and experience will serve as a strong foundation for future success.
