POSITION SUMMARY:
The Physical Education teacher, under the supervision of the Supervisor of Educational Enrichment, will provide an active learning environment where all students can excel academically, physically, and socially. 
 
 
PRIMARY DUTIES:
  • Establish a culture of high expectations that includes the shared belief that every student can work hard, and excel academically, physically and socially
  • Develop and implement lesson plans and class activities for Physical Education and Health classes aligned with New York State Standards
  • Assess students regularly and analyze student results; refine and differentiate classroom instruction based on assessment data and student needs
  • Collaborate with colleagues to improve instructional practices throughout the school; share best practice.
  • Manage student behavior to ensure every student is fully engaged
  • Actively participate in professional development activities, and work closely with the Upper School Principal, Athletic Coordinator, and sports coaches
  • Maintain accurate student records, including attendance
  • Identify unique student needs and collaborate with peer teachers to effectively address those needs
  • Support the school's Strategic Planning initiatives with an emphasis on strengthening the culture. Demonstrate commitment to the school purpose, vision, and mission. 
  • Perform other related duties as required and assigned.
 
 REQUIRED SKILLS AND ABILITIES
  • Ability and willingness to reflect and improve instructional practices
  • Compassionate and Passionate; Results-driven and goal oriented
  • Excellent classroom management skills. Provide positive behavior intervention with support
  • Effective interpersonal communication skills with colleagues, parents, and students
  • Knowledge of subject matter
  • American Sign Language (ASL) proficiency
  • Knowledge of child cognitive development and various learning styles
  • Prior knowledge of Thinking Maps and Schoology
  • Strong Google Suite skills preferred
 
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
  • Physical Education and/or Health Education credential required
  • Experience working with deaf students
  • Master’s degree

SECURITY CLEARANCE:
 
  •  Required clearances include medical clearance, fingerprinted by the NYC Board of Ed, SCR, and SEL clearance
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
  • Must have the ability to sit and stand for prolonged periods of time
  • Must possess the physical ability to demonstrate and participate in all class activities
  • Must be able to lift 15 pounds at times
