POSITION SUMMARY:  
The School Counselor/Social Worker will provide supportive counseling, consultation, and services to the linguistically, racially, and ethnically diverse Lexington students, their families, and the community at large.
 
PRIMARY DUTIES:
  • Provide individual counseling as mandated on the IEP for students ages 3-21 years old.
  • Provide counseling and support on an as needed basis
  • Keep up to date charts for assigned caseload
  • Provide family counseling on an as needed basis
  • Facilitate psychoeducational and therapeutic groups
  • Consult with educational staff
  • Write Mental Health Evaluations and Social Histories for referrals
  • Evaluate psychiatric emergencies (suicide evaluations)
  • Participate in team meetings and in-service trainings
  • Provide information for entitlement services
  • Work in collaboration with the school to develop and modify program
  • Collaborate with community agencies
  • Support the school’s Strategic planning initiatives with an emphasis on culture. Demonstrate commitment to the school purpose, vision, and mission.
  • Perform additional job duties as assigned by supervisor
REQUIRED SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
  • Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues and administrators
  • Ability to establish rapport and professional relationships with students and families
  • Excellent time management, planning, and organizational skills
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
  • Masters Degree in Social Work or Counseling
  • Must possess relevant state or nationally recognized professional certification/licensure (such as NYS LMSW/LCSW or NCC/LMHC) or attain within one year of employment
  • Knowledge of child and adolescent development
  • Counseling experience
  • Ability to communicate in American Sign Language (ASL)
SECURITY CLEARANCE:  
  • Required clearances include medical clearance, fingerprinted by the NYC Board of Ed, SCR, and SEL clearance
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer
  • Prolonged periods of walking in and around the building
  • Must be able to lift 15 pounds at times
