Lexington’s boys’ basketball team and cheerleaders headed to Albany on Tuesday, May 10 for the 16th annual Esther Lustig Memorial Basketball Classic. Before the game, Lexington students toured the Capitol building, were introduced on the floor of both the Assembly and Senate, and even met with their local representatives for individual question-and-answer sessions.
Both in the chambers and in the Capitol halls, Lexington students were recognized by legislators who voiced their support for the school, its mission, and the basketball team in the game set for later that night. Lexington School and Center for the Deaf was honored in the Senate with resolution J01726 from Senator Jose Peralta, and in the Assembly with resolution K00483 from Assemblyman Michael DenDekker.
After the Capitol visit, the Blue Jays took on the Assembly and Senate All-Stars in a tightly contested basketball game. The All-Stars edged out Lexington 41-39, but the real winner was goodwill between Lexington and its many supporters up in Albany.
Lexington is particularly grateful to Assemblyman Michael DenDekker and Assemblyman Jeffrion Aubry for all of their help in arranging the visit and the game. The Blue Jays look forward to their return next year to reclaim the Esther Lustig Memorial Basketball Classic trophy.
